IALE Romania team won the second prize at the national Quarry Life Award competition, 3rd Edition (2016)
IALE Romania and Edu - WG has added a new victory to their awards list, by winning second prize in the Quarry Life Award 2016 competition.
Our project, "One Landscape, Two Stories: People and Birds (a study of the Slatioara Pit)"- was appreciated by the jury. The prize (€3000) offered by HeidelbergCement Romania motivates us to continue our activities in the fields of education and landscape ecology.
One Landscape, Two Stories: People and Birds (a Study of Slătioara Pit)
The IALE Romania educational working group (Edu-WG) presents their second educational project, which qualified for this year’s Quarry Life Award, an international competition supported by HeidelbergCement.
The project aims to involve pupils from three different communities (the commune of Slătioara, the city of Bucharest and the commune of Glina) in activities that raise awareness on the importance of the fauna and flora in the proximity of Slătioara Pit, Olt County, Romania.
LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY DAYS WORKSHOP
Bucharest and Danube Delta, Romania, September 4-8, 2015
The Landscape Ecology Days Workshop took place between the 4th and the 8th of September 2015 in Romania. It was organized by IALE Romania and Centre of Landscape-Territory-Information Systems - CeLTIS, affiliated to the Institute of Research ICUB - University of Bucharest.
The workshop was a great opportunity for young researchers to present their work. A wide range of issues relating to connections between landscape and human activities were pointed out by the speakers:
IALE Romania members participated at the 9th IALE World Congress, July 5-10, 2015 Portland, Oregon USA.
The IALE Romania members were authors of oral and poster presentations which were held in various symposia, such as: Mountain Land Use Changes and Ecosystem Services; Urban Sprawl: Methods, Drivers, Limits and Implications for Planning; Urban Landscape Ecology: Global Perspectives; Hydrology as well as Land Use and Ecosystem Services.

IALE Romania team won the third prize at the national Quarry Life Award competition
We are very proud to announce that IALE Romania team won the third prize at national Quarry Life Award competition launched by Heidelberg Cement. The price consisted of 1500€ and a statuette with the competition`s symbol – the dragonfly.
The Romanian Award Ceremony took place on December 3rd at the headquarters of Carpatcement Holding, the Romanian branch of HeidelbergCement. The awards were presented by Dr. Florian Aldea, Country Manager Romania. The other national jury members that participated to the ceremony included Dr. Gabriela Niculae, Head of Environmental Department at Carpatcement, Emilian Burdușel, Environmental Expert at UNESCO Pro Natura (NGO) and Alexandru Săvulescu, Environmental Communication Expert.

IALE Romania's first educational project – In site learning. Studying biodiversity in the quarry
IALE Romania team proposed a project which was selected to be implemented for the Quarry Life Award competition. The competition was launched and financed by HeidelbergCement and Carpatcement. The project aimed to involve the pupils from the local community in activities to raise their awareness of the biodiversity importance in the proximity of Iglicioara quarry, in Turcoaia village, Dobrogea Region.

The Quarry Life Award is a worldwide contest promoted by Heidelberg Cement in order to raise the knowledge of the biological value of mining sites and contribute to further enhancing it. A mining site provides a great variety of landscapes and habitats that present disturbances from human activities. As a leading cement and aggregates producer, Heidelberg Cement has committed to manage biodiversity during and after extraction. In more than 1000 quarries and pits worldwide they strive to promote the local flora and fauna.
This event was supported by the University of Bucharest, the Dean and the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Geography, the Chair of Regional Geography and Environmental Studies Department and the members of IALE Romania Council.
Inaugural event IALE Romania (updated)
On 1st and 2nd November 2013 the IALE Romania (International Association for Landscape Ecology – Romanian Chapter) has organized the first official meeting to announce the launch of the association. The event was dedicated to understanding Landscape Ecology as a new research and educational direction in Romania and discussing the topic: Landscape Ecology - linking Nature and Human Dimensions.
This event was supported by the University of Bucharest, the Dean and the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Geography, the Chair of Regional Geography and Environmental Studies Department and the members of IALE Romania Council.
