• Description: The proposed research intends to produce a detailed model, linking the multiscale wavelet-based digital elevation model with landscape vulnerability. The model will contain gathered properties of the studied area (topographical surface analysis, constraints, limitations and aggression factors of landscape), with an important ambition to serve as a methodological basis for a future evaluation of the landscape ecological potential and vulnerability of the whole Carpathians region.

• Description: The research project aims to exchange and improve the methods of landscape monitoring in areas recognized for their high biological and geographical quality. It aims to select the indicators that seem most relevant to the purpose of managing the rural areas of great biological and geographical value, to test their operability in two countries where digital map data are not comparable and to discuss the relevance of their associations in a working group with various stakeholders.

Description:
Through the proposed project "Landscape integration in the procedure of Environmental Impact Assessment" we aim to improve the using of applied landscape analysis in environmental permits documents from Romania.

Most studies examine only the visual landscape, achieving subjective assessment of landscape aesthetics. Quantitative elements or landscape related to functionality are missing. With no national standards or recommendations, it is difficult to evaluate whether environmental assessors are correct regarding the analysed subject.

From this point of view, in this project, we aim to analyse environmental studies mainly from the following perspectives: the assessment of European procedures and at national / international level, the landscape environmental assessment mandatory and optional (legislative issues), the landscape assessment environment - scientific approaches available in Switzerland and in Romania and the landscape perception by the persons involved in the evaluation procedure.

We envisage the integration of our results into a toolkit, ready to be used as an example for the experts developing environmental impact assessment studies in Romania. The toolkit will be based on the best practices of landscape analysis from the Switzerland's environmental impact assessment, taking into account the Romania’s law system.

Description:
The research project within the Sciex Fellowship (LUCEP - Land-Use Conflicts and Environmental Planning) aimed to assess land-use conflicts in Romania based on people's perceptions and to compare the Swiss and Romanian performance in land-use conflicts resolution in order to provide useful insights for practitioners’ efforts to achieve the best uses of land. In Romania land use is vulnerable to competing interests due to poor implementation of spatial planning and environmental regulations. Therefore, this project addresed the issue of sustainable planning which might alleviate the conflicts and fulfill the requirements for what means adequate uses of land.
